Paulina asked:

My essay is about how Newspeak controls the thoughts of the public and how theyre not given the freedom to speak theyre mind but only the words allowed in Ingsoc

the title i had in mind would be something like “Newspeak: The ___ of Nineteen Eighty-Four” and the word missing would be a made-up word that falls into the newspeak format..for example, thoughtsteal..

Is Obama making George Orwell’s “1984″ a reality?

ORWELL asked:

Some observations from President Obama’s press conference (tagged by LA Times’ liberal writer, Andrew Malcolm, “Barack Obama’s delivery of no news is quite smooth”): In messages reminiscent of George Orwell’s “1984″ or “Brave New World,” Obama tried to convince us that he’ll cut the deficit by growing the deficit, he’ll get entitlement programs under control by enrolling more dependants, and he’ll grow America’s private sector of the economy by increasing the size, budget, and reach of the federal government to historically unprecedented levels. What’s next? Posters proclaiming “Freedom is slavery,” “War is peace” or “Poverty is wealth”?

! asked:

Is democracy the best form of government? The majority rules, but what happens to the freedoms and rights of the minority? Do you really think democracy is perfect? If so, imagine two wolves and a sheep voting what to eat for supper.
I’m not ranting about Prop 8. I’m a die-hard Republican conservative and a devoted Roman Catholic.

You asked:

I’m had fellow Democrats tell me that Communism hasn’t ever been done successfully. While I like the idea of individuals cooperating for the greater good, the lack of freedom and the Human Rights violations of Stalin and his Ilk, and as portrayed by Orwell, make me dead-set against Communism and Socialism. What do you think?
