You are as free as your mind allows you to be. Americans allow their minds to be more free so they are.
I know because I travel and have taught English in 5 countries. I can’t believe some of people’s beliefs.

Freedom independence license to do as one wants. Freedom is what you make of it. If you feel there is no absolute freedom than in your mind it does not exist. If you feel that just being able to dream and have thoughts that are of your own mind your own soul than you have absolute freedom. And no one but you can take that way.
